Blog Shows & Blog Ratings Now Live

Okay, the updates to the blogs are here now.  There's still some work-in-progress things, but it all seems to be working.

I went ahead and set up a CZW blog show for kaihtafc's fantasy show - CZW Blog Home

Anyone else who has a show, let me know and I can set it up for you to get you started.

Basically, this means no more fantasy blogs can be posted without having a fantasy blog show to put it in.  I'll give everyone a week, but then steinersaysuhhh will be monitoring the blogs and taking down anything that wasn't put in a show properly.

But it also means you can start making polls in your fantasy blogs.

NOTE: "Fantasy" blogs does NOT mean any fantasy booking.  Fantasy booking of the current WWE & TNA products is perfectly fine in any blog.  The fantasy blogs I'm talking about are ones where you create your own roster and completely do what you want.

Also, ratings are now live for blogs, too.  Rate the blogs you read to let others know how good it was!

Everyone has their own "special" blog page now, too - http://www.fourdown.org/blogs/YOUR_USER_NAME - ie, http://www.fourdown.org/blogs/steinersaysuhhh

Blog shows that you create from scratch won't have a pretty URL like CZW does, not right away.  I have to set that up.  So don't worry.  (people can still get to your show though!)

Lemme know if anyone has any questions!

If you're not receiving emails from this site at all or on time, read this..

For some reason, our automated emails (both when registering and any you've opted-in to receive for alerts) are not getting to every intended recipient.

This definitely seems to be affecting people whose email address ends with @yahoo.com, @roadrunner.com, and @aol.com - and surely there are others affected that I'm not aware of.

However, Google Mail accounts (@gmail.com) work perfectly, as do plenty of other mail providers.  I'm not sure why this is happening - we don't get any errors about it.

I am working on it and hope to have it resolved soon.  If you registered with this site but still haven't gotten your confirmation email, just contact me using the email address you signed up with and I'll get your account working. Sorry for the inconvenience! It's a thorn in my side right now!

Launched New Play All and Your Rank Pages

You'll find some changes to the site today - the old Overview/Command page is gone (well, it's not gone, you can still get to it at http://www.fourdown.org/fw_command.cfm if you still want to use it) and it has been replaced by two new pages.

The old page you'd get to when you log in had your current prediction game standings at the top and all the open prediction games underneath.  Nothing about the 4-UP WWE Fantasy Wrestling game.  Well, that had to change!

Now you've got two pages - one allowing you to play in all of our official games (both prediction and fantasy) and one that displays a lot more details about your rank (both prediction and fantasy, again).

The left navigation on the site has also been changed to reflect this.  This was all part of a reorganization of the site, which will let me start launching a few new features.  You'll see now that there's an overall "Wrestling Games" section - with the Play All (the new page you go to when you log in) and Your Rank pages.

Under that, the main blog links - first one is where you go to manage your blog / post new blogs, and then the two site blog pages letting you see all the site blogs and dev blogs.  (sometime soon I hope to launch a new "blog homepage" area where the blogs get more of a focus - but that's not super high priority for me)

Then you'll see the Prediction Games section, which now only has PPVs and Questions - since technically, those are the only prediction games you get ranked on.  (previously I had voting/polls listed with those)  And right underneath is the Fantasy Wrestling section, which currently only has 4-UP since that's the only fantasy game at present.  Voting comes next, since you don't get ranked on those, they're just fun extras if you choose to participate.

The Players and Wrestlers sections are next.  Players includes Leagues (which, if you belong to a league, is your league homepage; if you don't, it has info on how to join or create a league), Users (which lets you search through all our players), and Seasons (which lets you view rankings for the current season or any past season, and also "all seasons combined").  Wrestlers is just the wrestler directory, letting you see what wrestlers have been voted the highest, and which match is the highest rated.

The Miscellaneous section remains with the New Comments (letting you view all of the latest blog, PPV, user, and league comments), Vs Challenge (the history of the Cletus Challenges), and Link Exchange (where you can view user-submitted links and submit your own).

Twitter is the final section, with a section to view all wrestler Twitter accounts we have in our system (and let us know if we're missing any!), all user Twitter accounts, and then an old favorite Y2J vs Miz letting you see any tweets between Chris Jericho and The Miz.  (not as fun as it once was, but sometimes you'll find a gem!)

Please let me know if you find any problems!

Removal of ECW

I haven't done it yet but over the next week, I'll be making sure ECW doesn't appear as a choice for TV ratings and things like that.

I'll also make sure NXT gets added so you can rate that show.

As far as ECW talents moving to new brands - we only know a few so far for sure.  I'll be working on those over the next week, too.

PPV Comments Enhanced

On the PPV prediction game pages, you can now enter as many comments as you'd like.  Before, you could only enter one, and just update it as you wanted.  I wanted to make it more like blog comments, so this was the first step.  I will likely at some point make the way to add a comment work more like blog comments (with the pop-up window) - and you won't be restricted to just 250 characters like you are right now.

You can also delete previously-entered PPV comments.  That's something I'll have to add to blog comments, soon, too.

I'm also going to make these same updates across the other non-blog comments - which include wrestler pages, user pages, and league pages.

At some point, the comments will also be split up into pages, so that you'll only see maybe 10-20 comments at a time.

Recent Changes to the Site

If you're logged in, you've probably noticed some differences.

Not going to write a lot explaining them, but this is what was done:

  • The right-hand side of the site again displays the recent comments underneath the ads below the recent posts.  I was missing them personally, so I changed that back.  But the changes to the way the recent posts are displayed are still there, which I do like.
  • The top of the screen features both your "user rank box" and a "blog control box" which you can now expand and collapse using the buttons on the right of each box.  The site will retain your choice indefinitely so you will not have to minimize each box every time you come if you don't want to see them.
  • I removed the "Manage Your Blog" image/link that was in-between the site logo and your control panel, since the link to manage your blog is now always featured at the top of the screen as part of the "blog control box" and the link is visible regardless of whether or not you've hidden the full box.
Hopefully you'll enjoy the changes!

New Feature for Bloggers at the Site

Since I removed the part of the right-side of the site that listed the newest comments - which I know at least for me, I used a lot to check to see if any of my blogs had new comments (even though there is that New Comments link on the left-nav of the site) - I created a new feature specific to those of you who blog here at the site.

Now at the top of the page, right under the rank box (that shows your rank - though technically you can turn that off in your account settings), there's a new box that displays the following sets of data: "YOUR BLOG POSTS WITH COMMENTS WITHIN THE PAST WEEK" and "BLOG POSTS POSTED WITHIN THE PAST WEEK WITH NO COMMENTS".

This should hopefully help you manage your blogging a little more easily.

I do still have all those other new features that I want to launch sometime soon, but I haven't had a whole lot of time to devote to it, so this was a little one that didn't take too long to implement.

At some point, I'll probably take down this new box and update the Manage Your Blog area to inclue that data there instead.  But my real work has been hectic lately so I have no idea when I'll get around to doing the major updates I have planned.

Changes to the Recent Blogs on Right Side of Site

I made a minor change to the way blogs display on the right side of the site.  Now the latest 30 blog posts will show (broken up in the middle by an ad - which don't neglect if you enjoy the site please :) and the recent comments are not displayed.  You can find those easily using the New Comments link on the left.

But what you'll also notice is the blog postings on the right of the site now display the comment count. If 0 comments, it's in red, if 5 or less comments, it's in blue, and greater than 5 comments gets a nice green color to the number.

AND posts which have been commented on in the past 2 days will be highlighted in a kinda golden color, so the "most popular" topics will stand out for you.

Of course many major changes will be coming soon, including a better place to view all blogs, especially our featured bloggers' posts and any weekly blog specials will be focused on that certain users maintain.

Site Updates Coming Soon - Site Revamp, Roundtable, User Polls, and New Fantasy Game

Okay, all of the changes I've been working on lately are getting closer to reality.

Here's a list of everything coming -

  • Site Revamp: Hopefully what I'm doing will make the site a lot easier to use and navigate.  This is priority #1 for launching for the start of season 7.  Some ideas on what this will do:  What was previous the Overview page (the page you'd get forwarded to in most cases when you login) will now be an overall "Play Now" page - you'll be able to participate in everything, including the 4-UP WWE Fantasy game, all from this page.  Your current standings will be taken out of that page now, and there will instead be pages for the prediction game and 4-UP game to show your current rank.  (with options to roll it back to previous seasons, if you've been playing for a while)  Just going to try and make things a bit more organized - after adding 4-UP and then a lot of other silly little features, things got a bit crazy.  Going to try and simplify things!
  • Roundtable Blogs: When you post a new blog, you'll be able to "invite" other users (either specific users you select, or everyone from your league).  You can then post a topic in the blog, and each invited user gets to add one comment per topic.  Anyone not invited can still leave comments at the very bottom as normal.
  • User Polls: When you post a new blog, you'll be able to create your own poll.  This will hook into all the existing features on the site, so you'll be able to see the percentages for each answer by overall (all users), your league, or Facebook friends (if you're using the Facebook application).
  • New Fantasy Game: This is what I'll be working on with mitch176.  Unfortunately it's going to be the last item tackled, but I'm hoping to have it ready to go sometime in January.
Hopefully it'll add a lot of stuff people enjoy to the site!

Improved Random Pick - No Contest Never Selected!

By popular request!

I updated the Random Pick on PPV games - it will never auto-select No Contest in either the winner or finish select boxes.

Should make it a more useful feature - I know I use it occasionally for TNA!
