4-Down Fantasy: Phase 1

Phase 1 of the 4-Down Fantasy game is getting all of the interfaces done for entering the data for each TV show each week.  It is set up so that I can give specific users access to enter the data for a particular show - whether it's Raw, Smackdown, ECW, or a non-standard show like SNME. 

The process works like this:

1. The user chooses which show to enter the data for (out of the list of ones the user has access to)

2. The user is presented with a list of all wrestlers available in the fantasy game (newly-debuted wrestlers will not be available for player rosters for at least a month, so as to establish an initial value) with the option to check off each wrestler that appeared on the show.  Wrestlers specific to the show's brand are listed first alphabetically, followed by all wrestlers from the other brands. 

3. User then goes to a page that lists all of the chosen wrestlers.  Under each wrestler's name is a table containing all of the possible points-scoring accomplishments, letting the user check off each accomplishment that wrestler made on the show.

I don't want the list of accomplishments to be super long, since I don't want things to be too complicated - both from the player's standpoint and for the person entering all the data.  The list I'm going with (though if anyone has suggestions, please let me know) is:

• Appearance
  • In-ring
  • Other (Backstage/Satellite)
• Interfered in a Match
• Competed in a Match
  • Won by Pinfall
  • Won by Submission/KO
  • Won by Gimmick (cage escape, retrieve title from ladder, etc)
  • Won by Other (count-out, DQ)
  • Won by Association (wrestler's team won but this wrestler was not the legal man)
  • Retained Championship
  • Won Championship
  • Was a Gimmick Match
  • Was Final Match on Card

And then for Battle Royales, Elimination Chambers, and other specialty matches, there will be special accomplishments available - points per elimination made, etc.

And in case the wrestler had multiple matches on a card, you'll be able to give out separate points per match.  Multiple appearances will only count once, however, with the highest-value appearance being scored.  (if wrestler appears both in-ring and backstage, wrestler will only earn points for the in-ring, since in-ring will be worth more)

Next phases

Phase 2 - building the scripts that will determine the value of each wrestler.  Each wrestler will be split into base categories at the start of each season that give the starting values (main eventer, mid-card, tag team, diva, and jobber), but as the season progresses, a wrestler will either increase or decrease in value based on how many points that wrestler has earned each week.  So you might have bought CM Punk for your roster when he was World Heavyweight Champion at a high cost, but once he was moved into tag team competition, he would have lost a lot of his value.  Meaning if you sold him back to buy a different wrestler, you'd have lost money on the investment in CM Punk. 

Phase 3 - building the player interface.  The player interface will be where you buy/sell members of your roster, and views that let you see how your roster has performed each week during the season.  This will also show how you've earned/lost money over the season based on the performances of the wrestlers in your roster.  More than likely, you'll be ranked both on the amount of points your roster has accumulated for you over the season and on how much your roster is worth at the end of the season.  I haven't quite worked out all the details on that yet (and it might not even make sense to have both rankings), but I think as I build it, it will work out in the most logical way.

And if you're part of a league / run a league - yes, leagues will get ranked based on the combined scores of their top 15 scoring players each week the same way it's done for the prediction rankings.

I'm hoping to have this all ready for a season beta-test following WrestleMania.  But it might be longer - originally I wanted to have it done at the end of December, but obviously that didn't work out.  Only got weekends to build this, and don't always have the time every weekend to spend much time on it.  But I'm pretty excited about it - I think it will be a lot of fun to play.
