4-Down Fantasy: Update for 3/20

I had posted some of my ideas and progress over on the two biggest leagues' forums, and I think I'm pretty settled on how this game is going to work from the player's perspective.  (you thought I really planned this out?!)

Here were my initial thoughts:

Instead of buying wrestlers with a budget, you would instead have a choice of the following -

1 Main Eventer
1 Upper Midcard
3 Midcard
1 Diva
1 Tag Team Wrestler
3 Undercard

And I'm not going to worry about changing any wrestler's placement in the categories mid-season.

I think this is about the easiest way for anyone to jump right in and start playing. And it should still provide a pretty good variety in rosters across all players.

Based on the current rosters on WWE.com, the categories would go like this -

main event: Batista (when he returns), Jericho, John Cena, Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, Big Show, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Triple H, Undertaker

upper midcard: CM Punk, JBL, Rey Mysterio, Matt Hardy, MVP, Umaga, Kozlov, Christian, Jack Swagger

midcard: Jamie Noble, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Mike Knox, William Regal, Chavo Guerrero, Mr. Kennedy, R-Truth, Shelton Benjamin, The Brian Kendrick, Evan Bourne, Finlay, Mark Henry, John Morrison, The Miz

diva: Beth Phoenix, Candice, Jillian, Kelly Kelly, Melina, Mickie James, Rosa Mendes, Brie Bella, Eve, Maria, Maryse, Michelle McCool, Natalya, Nikki Bella, Alicia Fox, Katie Lea

tag team: Cody Rhodes, JTG, Shad, Ted DiBiase, Carlito, Curt Hawkins, Festus, Jesse, Primo, Zack Ryder

undercard: Charlie Haas, Dolph Ziggler, Goldust, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Santino Marella, Sim Snuka, Hurricane Helms, Jimmy Wang Yang, Kung Fu Naki, DJ Gabriel, Paul Burchill, Ricky Ortiz, Tommy Dreamer, Tyson Kidd

Some people are omitted, and some I listed above I probably wouldn't make available as a choice yet. (I wouldn't have Tyson Kidd as a choice yet, for example, not until he's been around for longer) John Morrison and The Miz are a step above being grouped with the tag team wrestlers, so I would put them as midcarders for now.

And I am going to do some points bonuses: wrestlers picked by < 15% of all players will get some kind of bonus. Any wrestlers you keep on your roster more than 2 weeks in a row will begin earning less points. (you'll never be able to score negative points, though - they just won't earn as much as otherwise; which may still benefit you if you choose them) And anytime you have to pick 2 weeks' worth of rosters at once (which will be most of the time, unless Smackdown changes things up and doesn't tape two episodes at once) - you'll earn a small bonus for all non-main event wrestlers in your 2nd week.

This is what came out of the little discussion:

Instead of simply picking that a wrestler was in a match (for giving points to wrestlers), now the points will be determined by the amount of people in the match.  A singles match will net the most points, followed by:  standard tag team, six-man or more tag, standard FFA, and massive FFA.  Points would diminish in that order.

This way, guys in singles matches earn the most.  Makes sense to me!  And to explain the last two match types:  standard FFA (free-for-all, "every man for himself") will be any FFA match involving 10 or less men.  This will cover elimination chamber matches, a small battle royale, Money in the Bank, etc.  The massive FFA is the same, but with more than 10 men.  This would cover the Royal Rumble and anything else that meets that criteria (though I can't think of anything else that would fall into this category off the top of my head).

I think this will all be done by the time season 5 starts (after TNA's Lockdown next month).  I'm sure I'll be improving it for a while after that, but I want to get it started so we can see how well it works out!
