More New Site Features Planned
Posting this kinda so I don't forget about all these things I need to do..
<ul>
<li>Obviously gotta make sure everything is in perfect shape in 4-UP for the kick-off week.. though I think most of it is pretty sound. At some point I'll need to make ways to browse past seasons of the game, but since it's a while until the 2nd season of it, that can wait.</li>
<li>League improvements. I realized today that here on the site, outside of generating the HTML/BBCode/Plain-text, there's no way to see how you ranked only within your league! This is something I plan to do this weekend. For both prediction games and 4-UP.</li>
<li>Link exchange page - I get emails all the time from people linking to the site that want me to link back to them. I'm not about to do that on the homepage, so I want to create a special area for it.</li>
<li>Build out the rankings window that's going down at the bottom of the site, below the main window and above the Twitter feed. That'll have all your current rank info for all the games here, including your league and within your league.</li>
</ul>
That's all I can think of right now. If anyone can think of anything you want me to add to the list, please let me know.

I just launched a new emailing system for reminder emails. Previously, I had to manually run these emails - the reason is that emailing tons of people at once scares me and I didn't want to screw up and send thousands of people a screwed up email, or worse - multiples of the same email. But I'm confident in it now after a lot of testing - and you'll notice if you were signed up for emails today, that now the question reminders show you all the questions. It's also running for newly-created questions and polls. So if I add 5 questions today, at some point you'd get an email letting you know about all 5 questions at once. If you were signed up for poll reminders, you received two emails about polls today accidentally. (and in your inbox here at the site, for everyone) The code was improperly checking for if poll emails had been sent out previously. Sorry about that. It'll only ever be after each week. The game is played out in weeks, not per event. The events just fall within the weeks. To do it after every event would mean I'd have to work four nights a week to get data from the people helping, verify that data, and then calculate everything. Not only do I not want to do that myself (unless you want to start paying to use the site!), but I don't want to ask any of the people helping to get the data in immediately after each event. If we were getting paid to do this, that'd be one thing. For free, you gotta wait til the end of each week. And sometimes a few days after. Posted on May 20, 2009 at 2:34 PM |
