Cody Rhodes is an interesting case....

I do believe this is my best non-fantasy blog ever!!!!

Cody Rhodes in my opinion is one of the best wrestlers in the WWE. And I know many people would agree with that. And when I say one of the best wrestlers, I don’t just mean his in-ring ability; I’m also referring to his great talent on the mic. Back when he was in his Un-Dashing Cody Rhodes gimmick, when he wore his mask. His promos were gold, and they still are. However when I look at Cody Rhodes, I just think he is in an interesting case. But before I get into that let me tell you a bit about Cody Rhode’s career just in case you didn’t know.

Cody Rhodes real name is Cody Runnels. And as you know he is the son of WWE Hall of Famer, Dusty Rhodes (or real life Dusty Runnels). Cody had a successful high school career, and was going to wrestle collegiately. However like his father and brother before him, Cody decided to pursue a career in professional wrestling. In June 2006 Cody using his real name began to wrestler for Ohio Valley Wrestling. This at the time was a developmental territory for the WWE. In OVW he began teaming with Shawn Spears. With Spears Runnells went onto win the tag team championships in OVW multiple times. Also in OVW he captured the OVW Heavyweight Championship once, as well as the OVW Television Championship.

Then he debuted on Raw, as Cody Rhodes and appeared with his father. A few weeks later Cody began a feud with Randy Orton that only lasted a few weeks. He then had a few minor feuds from that time. But his big break came when joined Legacy with Ted Dibiase and Randy Orton. And the rest is history. In the WWE, Rhodes is a three time World Tag Team Champion, a two time WWE Tag Team Champion, and a two time Intercontinental Champion. And while holding the Intercontinental Championship he was very impressive. And that’s why I miss him being the champion, and that is what brings me to my big point in this blog.

Cody Rhodes should not be the WWE/World Heavyweight Champion in the current scene of the WWE. I just do not think there is a need for it. I hear so many people say, “Give Rhodes a shot at the World Title!” or, “Let Rhodes win one of the main titles!”, or my favorite, “The WWE is stupid and I hate them because Rhodes isn’t a World Champion!” Those nay sayers need to do one thing, and that is calm down. Because like I said Rhodes doesn’t need to be World Champion right now for simple reasons.

Considering the fact CM Punk is feuding with John Cena and The Big Show (but mostly Cena). He would not fit in there, and it’s evident that John Cena is going to win the WWE Championship soon, and then he will probably continue his feud with John Cena. And with The Rock facing whoever is the WWE Champion at the Royal Rumble, I just don’t see Cody Rhodes being the champion at that point and facing The Rock.

So why not give him the World Heavyweight Championship you say? Well because look at that situation and rethink the question. You have Sheamus and Alberto who have been feuding for the titles for months. Not to mention it seems to be in evident that Randy Orton will probably be feuding with Sheamus after Summerslam, which is fine. Then throw Wade Barrett into the mix, and Mr. MITB Dolph Ziggler, and there just isn’t any room for Rhodes to fit in. And that’s fine because I would rather see guys like Orton, Sheamus, and Barrett, and Dolph Ziggler in the title scene over Cody Rhodes at this point. Okay let me rephrase that it’s not that I don’t want to see Rhodes in that title scene right now, it’s just that it would complicate things.

So at this point I think the WWE is only doing one thing wrong with Rhodes. He is not currently the Intercontinental or United States Champion. And that my friends is a major issue. Cody Rhodes should be holding one of those championships, and if it would have been my choice, he would have never lost the Intercontinental Championship to Christian. But with Rey Mysterio in an odd way feuding with The Miz (the buildup for their Summerslam match was awful, it is disturbing) for the Intercontinental Championship, is there a place for Rhodes in that title scene?

Then you look at The United States Championship. Where Santino is currently feuding with Antonio Cesaro and Cesaro is a heel. So if Antonio comes out on top in his feud with Santino. And just so happens to win the United States Championship, I don’t think Rhodes would get involved with the United States Championship and feud with Cesaro, in less one of them were to turn face (which I don’t see happening anytime soon).

So I think it would be best if Cody Rhodes would just get another shot at the Intercontinental Championship. Who knows maybe this Miz/Mysterio feud will blow over quick, and end with their Summerslam match? In that case I don’t think it really matters who comes out on top in that match this Sunday. Either The Miz or Rey Mysterio, I don’t care. Whoever wins that match needs to feud with Cody Rhodes. Because Cody Rhodes does not need to be a World Champion at this moment, but he definitely needs to be the Intercontinental or U.S. Champion in order to keep the mid-card interesting.

But I honestly believe by the time the Royal Rumble comes around, Rhodes will be feuding with someone over the World Heavyweight Championship. Like I said before I don’t think Rhodes will be facing The Rock at the Rumble, so I would say he will be a main eventer by the Royal Rumble where he will capture the World Heavyweight Championship. That is my opinion, please tell me what you think about it.
