Wrestling 101 featuring Ricky Steamboat
Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat was born Richard Henry Blood on February 28, 1953. Steamboat began his career in 1976 in the now defunct AWA using the name Sam Steamboat Jr., who was an older Hawaiian wrestler, For a while he used his given name of Richard Blood and then adopted the name that would make him famous, Ricky Steamboat.
In 1985, Steamboat was given a contract by Vince McMahon of the WWF/E and due to his Japanese American mother and Hawaiian father, his Asian looks helped with the new "Dragon" moniker.
In what is considered the greatest Wrestlemania match of all time, Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage at WM 3 is still considered the standard of all matches. It was an instant classic.
Steamboat has held many championships during his illustrious career. The following is a short list of some of the more well known titles he has held:
NWA World Heavyweight Champion
NWA United States Champion
WCW World Tag Team Champion with several different partners
WWE Intercontinental Champion
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009
