Wrestling 101 (Dick Slater)
Richard Van Slater was born May 19, 1951, and is better known by his ring name "Dirty" Dick Slater. He wrestled in the 70's, 80's and 90's for Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling.
He wrestled briefly in the WWF, now WWE as a babyface under a "Rebel" gimmick, but soon returned to WCW. He wrestled there until receiving his back injury that ended his career.
In June 2004, Slater was convicted for the stabbing of his former girlfriend Theresa Halbert. He was sentenced to one year of house arrest and two years of probation. He blamed the incident on influence from painkillers.
Slater received his training from Mike Graham, Hiro Matsuda, Jack Brisco, Bob Roop and Bill Watts.
During his career, Dick Slater won numerous regional titles with a short list as follows:
4 time NWA Florida Tag Team Champion
2 time NWA Florida TV champion
4 time NWA Georgia Heayvweight Champion
1 time IWA World Heavyweight champion
Slater is a former boyfriend of Luna Vachon. Slater was also married to Nancy Turner for nearly 24 years; they have 3 children together. He is currently married to Monica Walters.
