WWE Hell in a Cell Retrospective

This years WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view is just a few short weeks away. While many fans are not to fond of gimmick pay-per-views there certainly is something very cool about the Hell in a Cell one. As of writing this we know that Sheamus will take on the Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship. And that Team Hell No will face Sandow/Rhodes. And of course we now know CM Punk will face Ryback in the Cell.

Anyway with Hell in the Cell right around the corner I thought I would share my thoughts on what my favourite Hell in a Cell matches thus far have been.

Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker
WWF Bad Blood
October 5^th 1997

This one had to be on here didn’t it? Not just because it was the first Hell in a Cell match, but because it is a damn fine match that still holds up incredibly well to this day. I vividly remember watching this live with my cousin and we were both just in awe of what we were seeing. This match was far more than just a blood bath it was a great story by two masters of there craft. And of course who can forget this match also introduced us to the Big Red Machine Kane!

Brock Lesnar vs Undertaker
WWE No Mercy

Man this was brutal and I mean that in the best way possible. I feel this is one of the most under rated Hell in a Cell matches that the WWE has ever produced. These two guys went at 100mph and just destroyed each other. It was hard hitting balls to the wall stuff and I loved every minute of it. I think this match did a great job in portraying Brock Lesnar as an unstoppable monster.

Batista vs Triple H
WWE Vengeance

The whole Batista vs Triple H feud was so incredibly well done. The WWE really could not have handled it any more perfectly. They did not rush it and it worked out wonderfully. This was a great point of that feud. This was a very hard hitting match and I know that Triple H has his haters out there, but he certainly did a wonderful job in making Batista seeming like the real deal.

Kevin Nash vs Triple H

I loved the Kevin Nash vs Triple H feud and I think its one of the more underrated ones of the modern era of the WWE. These two I felt had some great matches at Judgement Day, Insurerextion and of course this one. This match was just pure entertainment from start to finish and I honestly feel that it is criminally underrated. And of course there was that crazy SOB Mick Foley as the referee. This match was just over the top, but it was so much fun.

Kurt Angle vs The Rock vs Steve Austin vs Rikishi vs Triple H Undertaker
WWF Armageddon

This for me was one of the highlights of the whole attitude era. You had six of the biggest stars of this era in the WWF. It was just so much fun. And I still think that the promo The Rock cut before the match was one of his all time best. The match its self was all action right from the start with six guys in the ring you never knew who to watch as you were scared you would miss something. Amazingly Kurt Angle retained his WWF title.
