WrestleMania 25 - Rourke vs Jericho, HBK vs Undertaker, what else?

cletus42o

I don't know if anyone else got as excited as I did tonight when WWE made it pretty apparent that we're getting HBK and The Undertaker at WrestleMania, but I almost don't care about anything else on the card - HBK vs Undertaker sells it for me alone.  There is the small lingering feeling that a three-way with HBK/Undertaker/JBL might be a direction they'll go in for WrestleMania, but I'm pretty sure WWE knows the money is in a singles match.

Well, unless it's a three-way elimination match.  That would make sense, since Undertaker losing his streak without actually losing would be ridiculous - and no one would believe the match would get booked that way.  An elimination match could be decent, since it'd likely have HBK eliminating JBL, and then HBK and Undertaker could go one-on-one for a while.  (and that way, HBK picks up a pinfall, then Undertaker does - only JBL ends up with nothing out of it)

But regardless - a match involving HBK and Undertaker is going to be awesome no matter what else is involved!  And the only Taker gimmick HBK hasn't been through before is Buried Alive.  He's beaten Taker in HITC and the casket match,  Undertaker should get the right to pick the gimmick, if he has no say in whom he faces!

So, how else is the WrestleMania card shaping up?

I'd say it's a pretty sure bet that Chris Jericho vs Mickey Rouke is on.  Yeah, it was denied after it was announced, but WWE continues to push both The Wrestler and Rourke himself.  They wouldn't be doing that otherwise.  Not really sure how great the match will turn out, but it should be fun - both in the build to it and the match itself.

Then there is Money in the Bank.  I'd think they're sticking with the 8-man formula this year.  Tough to say who all may be in the match, but a group I'd like to see is:  MVP, CM Punk, Mr. Kennedy, John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, Rey Mysterio, Evan Bourne, and R-Truth.  I'm sure a few of those names will be in the match, but we'll have to see how it shapes up.

One of the bigger matches looks like it will be brother vs brother in Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy.  Wasn't too thrilled with their past outing, but I'd imagine they'll put together something great for WrestleMania.

What about a big man match?  Vladimir Kozlov doesn't fit in MITB, so I'd think he'll be getting a singles match.  My personal pick is Umaga, but it's WrestleMania - why don't we throw Mark Henry in the match too?  I'd love to see a multi-man big man match.  With Umaga and Henry in it, I don't think Kozlov could stink it up as bad as otherwise.

And two big rumors that have been floating around, gotta cover them:

Trish Stratus vs Beth Phoenix - I'd be all for it.  I've heard that instead of Phoenix, it might be McCool.  I'd prefer Phoenix,  But seeing Trish on the show will definitely be a fun moment.

Steve Austin vs ..Who??  This one I don't know if I buy.  I see him getting on the show, but who could he face?  And is he really in any condition to be doing another match? (that ISN'T with The Rock?)  The only idea that really pops in my head is Austin vs JBL.  That'd give HBK/Undertaker and JBL/Austin, two huge matches with Texas wrestlers.  It'd also fit with JBL's recent storylines, being the controlling boss.  I wouldn't bet on it..  but I might pick it if it's worth 5 points here on the site. :)

And then the world title matches.  Still not enough information!

On ECW, I'd think Jack Swagger vs Christian for the title - and potentially make that a gimmick match.

With the WWE Championship, currently held by HHH - the options are:
- Randy Orton challenges HHH
- Edge loses the WHC in time to challenge HHH
- John Cena challenges HHH
- JBL, assuming nothing with Undertaker or Austin, challenges HHH
- Big Show challenges HHH
- Kozlov, assuming no big man match, challenges HHH
- Surprise return by Batista to challenge HHH

With the World Heavyweight Championship, currently held by Edge - the options are:
- Randy Orton challenges Edge
- HHH loses the WHC in time to challenge Edge
- John Cena challenges Edge
- Big Show challenges Edge
- Kozlov, assuming no big man match, challenges Edge
- Surprise return by Batista to challenge Edge

Personally, I'd go with:

Christian vs Swagger (c)
John Cena vs Big Show vs Edge (c)
Randy Orton vs HHH (c)

So what's my projected WM25 Card!
Based on the data I've got as of 2/16/2009

WWE Championship  Randy Orton vs HHH (c)

World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena vs Big Show vs Edge (c)

ECW Championship
Christian vs Swagger (c)

Oscar the Grouch vs Oscar Winner  Chris Jericho vs Mickey Rourke (w/ Flair, Piper, others in tow)

Money in the Bank  MVP, CM Punk, Mr. Kennedy, John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, Rey Mysterio, Evan Bourne, and R-Truth

Buried Alive Match  Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker

Battle of the Texans II
John Bradshaw Layfield vs "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

Brother vs Brother, No DQ  Jeff Hardy vs Matt Hardy

Women's Championship  Trish Stratus vs Beth Phoenix (c)

Big Man Elimination Match  Vladimir Kozlov vs Umaga vs Mark Henry vs Kane vs Mike Knox vs The Great Khali

(I upped up my big man match concept..  now it's an elimination match and has all the big guys for added pleasure)

So what do you guys think?  Anything on my proposed card that you think wouldn't work?  (I don't buy that Austin is wrestling either, so don't focus on that part)

It's pretty apparent they're going with HHH vs. Orton and Edge vs. Cena in the championship matches. I really hope they don't do a gimmick match for Undertaker/Michaels.

Did you get the Big Man Match idea from Wrestling Observer Radio last night? They talked about something very similar.

I don't listen to Wrestling Observer Radio, so no, it was just an idea I had. Maybe they stole it from me. :-D

What did they say exactly?

I think it's a little too early to tell where they are going with the Championship matches. I can't believe they are actually doing brand vs brand matches for the title. However, I have been saying that since Batista has been gone that HHH would be coming to Raw. Raw needs a big name veteran like HHH to give guys like Cena, Jericho, and Orton a real match. HHH just doesn't quite fit in on Smackdown anyway. The card looks pretty decent though and pretty accurate. I'd like to see them all happen except that Jeff needs to either 1)be in a championship match or 2)be in championship qualifying match. The title still belongs around Jeff's waist as his reign was WAY too short.

They said they should have a "Monster's Battle Royal" with Khali, Mark Henry, Kane, Koslov, Big Show, and anyone else who sucks (Dave Meltzer's words not mine haha) Basically to get all the worst workers in one match.
