So dx4life won against me (pretty easily, too) at WWE's Night of Champions, so I am posting a blog detailing the Evolution vs Legacy feud. Evolution came together as a stable back in 2003, and consisted of Triple H, Ric Flair, Batista, and Randy Orton. Legacy first formed as a stable in 2008, and will only be remembered as being comprised of Randy Orton and Priceless, Ted DiBiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes.
The one thing in common between both groups is that Randy Orton played a large part in both. His departure from Evolution has been one of the building blocks for feuds where Randy Orton has faced any of the other original members of Evolution. WWE's beaten it to death by now but what happened was Orton won the world title while part of Evolution, and HHH at the time was solely interested in being world champion, so Orton was destroyed by the group (and "Orton'd" as it came to be known).
They've all feuded so many times at this point. HHH and Orton have had three Last Man Standing matches for the world title that I know of. Orton and Batista had a run of PPV matches this year.
It is a bit of a stale feud at this point. And one of my problems with it is that HHH and Batista were heels when they kicked Orton out of the group, and Orton became a babyface. They never mention that when they use that history to build to any of their matches. Technically, Orton was the one who got screwed, but we're supposed to forget that.
It appears that the final match between Triple H and Randy Orton is coming - likely at the October Hell in a Cell PPV. Originally the rumor was that they would face off in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam, but once the new PPV was created, they decided to hold that match off since it would be silly to do a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam and then have a PPV named that a few months later.
Now that WWE has laid the groundwork for the D-Generation X reunion - possibly starting as soon as next Monday - it appears the feud between HHH and Orton will move from being an Evolution/Legacy match-up to a D-X/Legacy match-up. I'm hoping that will add a little freshness to something that has been run into the ground for almost two years now. I'm not entirely sure where it will leave Shawn Michaels when the Hell in a Cell PPV comes around - but perhaps the feud between D-X and Legacy will be over when that PPV is done. I hope, at least, because I'd like to see them move into one last Triple H vs HBK feud that culminates at WrestleMania 26!

Yes, but if memory serves me correctly, when Vince was punted Steph brought Shane, then when Shane was punted, and Steph got DDT-ed Triple H came, who brought back both McMahons, who then brought back Batista, so it does happen to count :) Posted on July 30, 2009 at 4:06 AM |
