Big Bubba: WCW Halloween Havoc, Greatest Moments

Alright, everyone liked my last (serious) Big Bubba entry about the 2011 WWE Hall of Fame, but now I'm switching gears and we're going to take a look back at one of the best PPV series of all-time, WCW Halloween Havoc!

WCW Halloween Havoc was, of course, an October PPV that had some pretty crazy themes over the years.  (all tying in to Halloween in some way)  WWE technically owns the Halloween Havoc name, and I think they should bring it back.  Halloween and TV-PG go hand-in-hand if you ask me, and the theme is a lot stronger than even Hell in a Cell for a PPV.  (Hell in a Cell is actually a main event match you could have on Halloween Havoc every now and then and keep with the Halloween theme!)

So WCW did give us some good matches on the PPV occasionally, but this blog is about the GREATEST MOMENTS - and for me, that means the silly, the insane, the wacky stuff that happened. 

But before we get to my favorites, let's just quickly look back at the very first Halloween Havoc PPV's main event. 

Halloween Havoc 1989

The main event of the 89 edition (the first edition) was Ric Flair and Sting vs The Great Muta and Terry Funk..  in a THUNDERDOME match.  What is the Thunderdome?  Well, take the Thundercage - which is basically a huge cage made of steel bars, but with the top made to prevent escaping - and then electrify the area near the top of the cage to get the Thunderdome.  Yes, an electrified cage.  And how do you win this match?  You have to beat your opponent so badly that their valet/manager THROWS IN THE TOWEL.  That's a pretty nutty concept.  And a fitting beginning to the Halloween Havoc legacy.  If you're wondering. Flair/Sting won this match.

So on to my favorite moments..

1992 SPIN THE WHEEL, MAKE THE DEAL: Sting vs Jake Roberts, with the WHEEL determining that this would be a Coal Miner's Glove match

I really don't remember the match itself very well, but everyone remembers the wheel!  The fact that the main event stipulation wasn't known until the show - that was pretty weird at the time.  If this happened in the late 90s, surely the wheel spinning would have been done on the Nitro before the PPV.  This concept was repepated the following year for the Cactus Jack vs Vader match (it ended up being a Texas Death match).

1994 JOHNNY B. BADD vs THE HONKY TONK MAN

Truly a classic.  It went to a time limit draw.

1995 SUMO MONSTER TRUCK FIGHT: Hulk Hogan vs The Giant

This is another one of those great classic wrestling matches.  They fought on top of the arena and after the match The Giant fell off the top of the building..  but of course he fought later in the night, apparently surviving an impossible fall.

1998 WRESTLING'S MOST TERRIFYING REMATCH: Hollywood Hogan vs The Warrior

One of the worst matches I can remember seeing on PPV.  Which followed one of the worst storyline builds in wrestling history.

And let's not forget the main event of Goldberg vs DDP, which ran over time, causing many customers to NOT SEE THE FINISH of the match! 

1991 CHAMBER OF HORRORS Match: El Gigante, Sting, and The Steiner Brothers vs Abdullah the Butcher, The Diamond Studd, Cactus Jack, and Big Van Vader

What makes this match great?  The finish of the match involved an electric chair inside of the cage.  To win you had to put an opponent in the chair and then pull the switch which would electrify the person in the chair.  Who came up with this stuff?  I clearly remember Abdullah in the chair when the switch was pulled and it was a disgusting sight.
