Big Bubba: The Celtic Warrior, Sheamus

Hey everyone time for my next entry for Big Bubba.  This time my topic was to write about my favorite European superstar.  I chose Sheamus because he has become one of my favorite wrestlers in a very short amount of time.  And it just so happens he was born in Dublin, Ireland, so I had to go with him!

Going to start out with the basics -

Sheamus debuted on ECW on June 30, 2009. He was part of the New Superstar deal they were doing, where unknown talent was brought in and basically given a chance to shine on WWE TV. I remember watching his feud with Goldust and being a little unsure of how well he'd end up doing. He had a good look, but I wasn't sure how his in-ring work would be. Turns out it was better than expected for someone with his physique (and who was pretty much an unknown).

ECW of course didn't last all that long after his debut, and he was brought over to Raw.  That was only a little more than a year ago.  He made a huge impact on the show, pretty much demolishing Jamie Noble (leading to Noble retiring).  His first big break was being a part of Miz's team at Survivor Series.  Sheamus actually got the winning pinfall for his team, pinning John Morrison. 

This is where it seems like WWE knew they had something great in Sheamus.  The very next night on Raw, they had a concept I wish they would do more often.  It was a battle royale to name a #1 contender, but the participants were people who had never won a world title before.  Sheamus ended up winning, and went on to win his first WWE Championship from John Cena in a tables match at the TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs PPV. 

So he became the first Irish-born WWE champion.  Pretty awesome.  A lot of fans were still not really sure about him, though, since he hadn't been given too many opportunities on the mic.  But every time he was given the mic, he pulled it off superbly.  His accent and mannerisms, along with a very unique look (extremely intimidating and of course his skin color has to be mentioned), combined with his presence on the mic - I think he won over any critics pretty quickly.

He ended up losing the championship at Elimination Chamber, just a month before WrestleMania 26.  Triple H cost him the title, eliminating him in the match (even though John Cena ended up winning the title that night).  So that set up a feud that technically is still ongoing today.  They fought at WM26, but Sheamus lost that match.  He then beat HHH in a street fight and injured HHH to the point that we haven't seen HHH on WWE TV since.  So he's had that feather in his cap for a while, claiming he retired HHH.

He won the WWE title back at the Fatal 4-Way PPV, with a big assist from Nexus.  Then of course he lost it to Randy Orton at Night of Champions in the 6-Pack match.

Last night on Raw, after losing to Orton at Hell in a Cell, he destroyed Daniel Bryan in a "match" - and we're not sure yet what direction he'll be heading in. 

Here are some things I'd like to see happen with Sheamus:

If he DOES feud with Bryan, I don't want either man to come out of the feud having lost any momentum.  Sheamus technically has one up on Bryan already.  If they fight again, and it takes a HHH distraction for Bryan to sink in a submission for the win, I'm okay with that.

Obviously the big thing is HHH returning, since they're going to pick the feud back up immediately.  Should that go to WM27 for them to have a WM rematch?  I'm not so big on that, I don't like seeing the same match twice on WM unless HBK is involved.  So I'd like to see their feud be over who ends up getting a title match at WM27. 

I'd love to see him turn face one day too.  When that ever happens, as long as they have a really strongly-booked heel for him to go up against, I think the crowd will go wild for it.
