I'm a man of my word. Since I lost To Cletus I will now blog about The History of the casket match.
The first Casket match was sometime in the 70's. I can't find footage or date only result.
Dusty Rhodes def Ivan Koloff. At an Houston Wrestling Event.
The next one is the one considered to be the first casket match ever. Mostly because it was the first on WWE. The Undertaker vs. Kamala
November 24, 1992 at Survivor Series The Undertaker def Kamala with help from his mystical powers and the urn Paul Bearer had. Taker pined Kamala after knocking him out with the urn and pushed him into the casket nailing the lid shut literally.
on January 22, 1994 At the Royal Rumble Yokozuna faced The Undertaker in a casket match. This match was the first for the attached lid for a more modern look at the casket. Even the mighty undertaker can't stand up to 7 on 1 odds and was laid out with his own urn.
Yokozuna def The Undertaker
At Survivor Series on November 23, 1994 Yokozuna and The Undertaker had a rematch. This time though the interference would not help as Chuck Norris was the special guest Referee. The Undertaker kicks him straight into the casket, breaks the Japanese flag over his knee, and slams the lid shut to defeat Yokozuna.
The Undertaker def Yokozuna
On July 23, 1995, In Your House 2 presented The Undertaker vs. Kama. since Takers opponent was not a superheavyweight they used the traditional casket. Kama tried to get cute with a running variation of the Tombstone into the casket only to be chokeslammed and booted into the Casket.
The Undertaker def Kama
One month later August 27th, These two had a rematch at Summerslam. This match featured the first use of the inside the casket camera. It was the same match with eh same result except this time Kama got a tombstone for his trouble.
The undertaker def Kama.
December 17, 1995 In Your House 5 The Undertaker Mabel December 17, 1995 IN Your House 5 saw the recently crowned King of the ring "king" Mabel vs. the Undertaker. This rivalry had begun to boil over as Mabel had stolen the urn and melted it into a necklace. I remember this match because I had met The Undertaker just a couple months earlier and had said to him that this match would take place. I met him at a family reunion in Nashville. at the time he was married to my dad's cousin. I just had no idea it was that long ago. The undertaker loved to face the superheavyweights at this time and Mabel was no exception. He seem to do the impossible by chokeslaming him and the booted him into the casket. Mabel's manger tried to help but to only get chokeslammed himself and put in the casket with the gold urn necklace around his neck.
The Undertaker def Mabel
May 26, 1996, In Your House 8 featured Goldust vs. The Undertaker for the intercontinental championship. Goldust was a really good wrestler with a horrible gimmick. sadly he's now a comedy relief guy feeding off his daddy's shadow. This was a really good match until taker went to open the casket at the end of the match and mankind was inside. once the claw was applied that was it. This was the only casket match of 1996 after 3 in 95 and 2 in 94.
Goldust Def The Undertaker
At Madison Square Garden on March 16, 1997, Vader and The Undertaker faced off in a casket match. I had never seen or heard of this match before compiling this list as it was broadcast only to the people that had MSG network. and again just like the previous match it was ruined by mankind hiding in the casket after the undertaker had chokeslammed and tombstoned Vader. Only casket match in 97.
Vader def The Undertaker
January 18, 1998 at Royal Rumble. DX was at its heights with Shawn Michaels as its leader. He defended the WWF championship against The Undertaker in a casket match. I believe this was the first Casket match without Taker's Signature Manager Paul Bearer in it. the match featured at one point both Michaels and taker inside the casket at the same time with lid down. Kane came out as if he was going to help The Undertaker by clearing the ring of DX and their helpers but he turned on taker and put him in the Casket and took an axe to it and set it on fire.
Shawn Michaels def The Undertaker
October 19, 1998 RAW The Undertaker Kane The first Non-PPV Casket match was October 19, 1998 on Raw. Kane vs. The Undertaker. They end up inside the casket together and as a result they destroyed the casket while fighting inside it. The match basically ended in a draw when taker chased after Paul bearer
Draw
May 17, 1999 Raw saw another casket match this one between the Rock and the Undertaker. it was a fairly back and forth match on Raw. The match was decided when Triple H came down to attack The Rock with a sledgehammer. HHH locks the rock inside and beats on the casket with a sledgehammer.
The Undertaker def The Rock.
The first Casket match not to feature The Undertaker in it occurred September 23, 1999. in the match Mideon & Viscera were taking on Triple H on Smackdown. although he fought valiantly he was able to put Mideon in the casket but Shane came out and said he had to put both in. Viscera and Mideon finished him off shortly after.
Mideon & Viscera def HHH
The Casket match took a 3 year hiatus. The next casket match was on Raw October 28, 2002. Featured Kane vs. Triple H. The match featured Shawn Michaels climbing out of the casket and attacking Triple H. Kane then chokeslammed HHH and put him in the casket
Kane def HHH
in The WWE the casket match once again took a 3 year hiatus. but NWA: TNA had one on September 17, 2003. D-Lo Brown vs. Sonny Siaki. I don't care enough about TNA to actually see how the match turned out.
D-Lo Brown def Sonny Siaki
The Revival of the Casket match to PPV was on January 30, 2005 at the royal rumble. The undertaker took on John Heidenreich. JBL interferes in the match attacking taker but there is a surprise in the casket. Kane was waiting and this time helps the undertaker out by getting rid of JBL. Heidenriech and Taker go at with Taker chokeslamming Him and tombstoning him and put him in the casket.
The Undertaker def John Heidenriech
At No Mercy on October 2005 The culmination of The Ortons/Undertaker Feud came to a head in a casket match between Cowboy Bob Orton and Randy Orton vs. The undertaker. Bob Orton shows like his son he'll do anything to win a match. Orton uses a fire extinguisher as randy hits the RKO and they together put taker in the casket after randy uses the fire extinguisher on taker again locking him inside.
The Ortons def The Undertaker
The undertaker puts his Undefeated streak on the line against the Worlds strongest man Mark Henry at Wrestlemania 22 on April 2, 2006. The match went back and forth with both men being in danger of losing. but in the end it was a tombstone was all the undertaker needed to keep the streak alive.
The Undertaker def Mark Henry
almost 2 years later on Raw Mark Henry gets a rematch in a casket match against The Undertaker. the match was on March 10, 2008 dubbed Wrestlemania rewind night. it was literally the case of same match same result. The Undertaker locked on Hell's Gate and Henry passed out
The Undertaker def Mark Henry
On October 31, 2008 The Undertaker took on Chavo Guerrero on Smackdown. While the big show looked on. The big show came down to help but was dumped on top of the casket and ran off leaving Chavo to be destroyed.
The Undertaker def Chavo Guerrero
And now we come to what is at this point the final Casket match. on the PPV where it started for the Undertaker he took on The Big Show at Survivor Series on November 23, 2008. The match was a see-saw between Show and Taker. at one point Show trashed the casket and tried to leave but was stopped by a wall of fire. they brought out a second casket in which Taker Irish whipped him into the casket causing it to fall over and close.
The Under Taker def The Big Show.
The Undertaker 11-5-1
Triple H 0-2
Mark Henry 0-2
Kama 0-2
Kane 1-0-1
Yokozuna 1-1
Goldust 1-0
Vader 1-0
