Jmt's thoughts on CM Punk vs Ryback

Welcome to a revival of sorts of the former JMT Show. It's where I take time to explain my opinions and things on things in wrestling and sometimes how I would book it. I am planning on trying to post these every so often as I can. It depends on my avaliable time and how I feel about doing it.

Well the WWE has given us an unique match something no one saw coming here for Hell-In-A-Cell. The Officially But Not Really Undefeated(Yes, He has lost a match but it's not being talked about. He lost a match at a house show in January to Alex Riley.) Ryback vs The 2nd longest Reigning WWE Champion since 2000 CM Punk. However intriguing this match is WWE has painted themselves into a corner with this match. Each outcome for this match has it's Pros and Cons. Let's look over them and I will tell You at then end what I think will happen.

CM Punk Wins:

The Reigning Champion is expected to face The Rock at Royal Rumble. That match would be huger with Punk having an over 400 day title reign then for Punk to lose the title and get it back a PPV or 2 later. Punk would be bigger as well for having defeated the unstoppable force known as Ryback. However there are negatives with this outcome as well. Namely how much it might hurt Ryback. Ryback is being billed as the unstoppable force and undefeated. A loss to Punk rather it be clean or dirty would destroy everything he has been built up to and possibly destroy his gimmick and momentum. Ryback can be a huge star in the future. A loss here could derail his future.

Ryback Wins:

The Unstoppable Ryback winning here would be unexpected and would be huge for the Young man. It's never appropriate to say an injury was the best thing to ever happen to someone but Ryback comes the closest to that statement being true. If he never gets hurt as Skip Sheffield, he is never repacked as Ryback and might never have become what he is now which is a potential star in the making. Ryback winning and becoming WWE Champion so quickly is something fans beg for in being unpredictable and giving new guys a shot instead of Cena, Del Rio, or Orton all the time. The negatives however weight just as great as the positives. It would be hard to book a WWE Championship run for Ryback especially with The Rock looming just a couple months from now. The only way they could book him winning and losing the title and potentially not hurt Ryback as much is to CM Punk him. To have him taken out of the match and replaced by someone else. Even that hurts the character of Ryback. Having him win the championship makes it even harder on creative to book him.

The Match Ends In A No Contest:

This might be the best case scenario for WWE. It would allow Punk to retain the title while at the same time not hurt Ryback with a loss. It also makes sure Ryback isn't handed the title before he is ready. This outcome however might be hard to believe with the match being inside the Hell-In-A-Cell where no rules exist. It also clearly sets up the next PPV which is one of the Big 4 in Survivor Series as a PPV the WWE Championship wasn't defended. That in itself is a negative.

My Conclusion:

I honestly feel the best situation is to have Brock Lesnar interfere in the match and cause the No Contest after Cena comes to the rescue. It does the least damage to the WWE Championship, and Ryback and CM Punk. This also gives Ryback an audition in the Main-Event to see if he is truly ready to grab the brass ring and be a Main-Eventer. Whatever the decision is made, it for sure will not be an easy one. Let's just hope for a good feud and a good match.
