"Superstars" for 04/23 (Bonus Cena Rant!)
So, this week's "Superstars" has been actually promoted quite well, with two of the three matches known well ahead of time. Coming off of a pretty alright debut, can "Superstars" keep momentum going and still have promise for the months coming up? Kindof.
The show started off with Rey-Rey and Punk going against Big Show and Kane, an old tag team who I was happy to see together again, since I actually enjoyed their Championship reign. Outside of the nice slide tumble Rey pulled off mid-way through the match (which he looked genuinely shaken up over, or proud he was actually able to land on his feet) and the fact that, with this match, we all know what kind of undies Kane wears under his trunks (Under Armour, for those without WGN), this wasn't that great of match in any means. It was a typical Rey/big guy match where he is beaten down 90% of the time (do you think he ever gets tired of that crap?), but then gets some high-flying offense in. And, curiously, Punk didn't get in the ring until the final minute or so and then got his ass handed to him and defeated by Kane. I know Kane and Punk have a match at "Backlash," but Christ, what a way to treat the MITB winner. Mysterio was able to hang in the match with both guys for about seven minutes, then in one-foul chokeslam, Punk is down. I don't agree with that...

fourdown (fourdown.org) @stompthewalrus The gauntlet match on this past Raw was really just a handicapped match. I wouldn't give anyone points for winning, though. |
