I've been thinking lately about the Jeff Hardy / WWE situation. One thing that everyone's been wanting to know for months now is the status of Jeff Hardy's contract negotiations with WWE. His contract was going to be up around now, but he has apparently signed on for at least until SummerSlam. Considering he was awarded the World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions, they must have reached some type of agreement.
Personally, I share the opinion with some others that Jeff Hardy shouldn't have been awarded the title - WWE has put up with his past indiscretions and had previously given him a (admittedly short) title reign. I feel Jeff owes WWE enough that he should be willing to stick with the company during a time when they need him. But whatever, he's a "free thinker" and "does what he wants" - but for whatever reason he has a huge amount of fans. (don't get me wrong, I enjoy his work, but I don't enjoy the person)
But anyway.. why did WWE put the title on Jeff if he's only going to be around for a short while longer? And do it at the expense of a guy who's starting to shine as a top heel on Smackdown, CM Punk?
I was thinking, and the only way it really makes sense to me is if something dastardly is done to Jeff Hardy - taking the title off of him AND explaining his absence shortly after.
The thought of a new screwjob came to mind. Obviously, there's the famous screwjob in history with Bret Hart. There have been a few worked screwjobs since - the ones I can recall vividly are: Mankind at the end of Survivor Series 1998, when The Rock won the title; the wacky Jeff Jarrett / Vince Russo / Hulk Hogan thing from WCW; and wait.. that's really all I can recall. (and if you dare say Lashley being stripped of the ECW title when moving to Raw.. please leave! :)
Jeff Hardy is really over. If he gets screwed somehow, there are tons of fans who will be very upset! Sure, it's going to be a worked screwjob, so it's not going to hold the same weight as what happened with Bret Hart, but they've already brought some "real life" elements into the Hardy/Punk rivalry.
That brings up my first idea for the screwjob - and the one I think would be the biggest deal. What if CM Punk does something that causes Jeff Hardy to get his third strike and have the title stripped AND have him ejected from the company? He can dose a drink backstage, plant something in Jeff's bag, there are many different ways it could happen.
Is this taking the storyline too close to reality? I don't know.. maybe. But they've already crossed that line if you ask me.
So Jeff would take his time off, and when he comes back, the return match against Punk would be huge.
And if you didn't catch it, this would happen before SummerSlam - Hardy wouldn't even be defending at the show. Who would fight for the vacant title? CM Punk, John Morrison, Kane, ... THE UNDERTAKER?
If they went with a standard screwjob, I don't know who would screw Jeff - I don't know who would back up CM Punk given the current storylines. I kinda like my idea and I think it would give Punk serious heat. Plus, it would explain exactly why they gave Jeff the title!

Oh my God! That would be the best storyline to do to put over CM Punk as a top heel on Smackdown and possibly all of the WWE. Plus, it'd be a good way to make Jeff Hardy lose the title without putting him down in his career by losing the title, and would generate a huge feud between Jeff and Punk in the future when Jeff returns to the WWE. i don't like this idea at all jeff deserves his title rain we all make mistakes in life hes paid his dues its in the past let it go..jeff is great..if he gets screwed out of the title at all let it happen at summerslam or soon there after like when matt screwed him out of the wwe title at the royal rumble 2009 with edge...i mean come on u know when edge comes back if and when he does he's gonna come back after his world title as he calls it anyway..and we all know that if jeff's contract is up they will come up with some kind of storyline to do it with that none of us will like and as far as the storyline of cm punk being a heel i don't like it as i have liked cm punk since he debuted at ecw but he's losing pupularity quick and let's face it all superstars know that if it wasn't for the wwe fans they wouldn't have paychecks...we all have our favorites we love and our favorites heels and assholes...so get real people let jeff have his rain for as long as he can he deserves it..if u want a real good screw job let it somehow happen with some of kind or interference with punk in the morrison and hardy match on smackdown or somehow at summerslam so john morrison gets the title and then morrison can have a rain as world champ and have his storyline with cm punk if they want to keep making cm punk a heel as morrison is becoming well liked since his split from the miz and him coming to smackdown as a singles wrestler.. s Posted on July 31, 2009 at 6:00 PM |

cenafannum1 - I agree Jeff deserves to hold the title. He's been around for a long time now and he's had some incredible performances. But I still like this idea! It's not really screwing Jeff over in any way - because when Jeff returns after taking his time off, he'd be incredibly over with the fans. Not only because of the absense, but because they'd be excited to see him pay CM Punk back. I think it'd work well. Jeff would definitely come out on top in the long run - well, assuming he ever came back. If he didn't, then at least you put Punk over strong as a heel. I like Jeff Hardy alot, but putting the World Heavyweight Championship on him was a big mistake. CM Punk was a good heel champion and they needed that. Everyone knows Jeff will lose the title at SummerSlam or before SummerSlam, because he's leaving. Just think about it, Jeff is screwing the fans over. He want's to leave when he knows he's one of the most popular superstars. I dont' get it, why have Jeff have another short title reign. POINTLESS!!! I agree with Spencer. CM Punk is a heel and is probably the only major heel on Smackdown right now because Edge is injured and Jericho is on all three brands. This will definitely put CM Punk over as a major heel on Smackdown if he does this to Jeff. And if Jeff comes back, he'll be put over as a top babyface when he pays CM Punk back for doing the screwjob by making him "fail" a drug test. We all pretty much know that with the guys currently on Smackdown, like CM Punk, John Morrison, Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Undertaker, and some others that we don't have many main eventers and may World Title holders. So we all pretty much know that in the near future, John Morrison will be holding the World Title. Not sure when, it may be at Summerslam. He's been given a big push and he may be the biggest babyface on Smackdown now since Jeff will be leaving soon. So, we'll have to wait and see where this all goes.
