Many people after Hell in a Cell have been wondering why WWE went PG? You know, I've heard many people say it's because of John Cena, well I disagree. This is all Vince McMahon. McMahon made the call becuase he's drawing in young viewers. John Cena never had a problem bleeding before as we've seen in previous elimination chamber's and I Quit matches, in fact I thought JBL vs. Cena in an I Quit Match was a really good match. This is all McMahon. I hate it, and everybody else hates it, but you cant blame John Cena. Maybe WWE will change there mind in the near future, if this doesn't work.

Yea Vince is trying real hard to make it a PG show and Cena got his FU changed to an Attitude Adjustment, but that was after Vince said let's go PG. It was Vince for sure. i think its stupid blood makes the matches seem more real sure pg will draw more young viewers but vince is kissing the older die hard fans who buy the $45 ppvs 25 dollar tshirts and $300+ title belts good buy not smart in my opinion Posted on October 14, 2009 at 5:42 PM |

i disagree on the john cena part. this man is definetly not a pg kind of man&he doesnt mind bleeding but vince shouldnt have pulled the plug&made it pg im a young viewer&ive been watching it since the attitude era so he should go back to the old ways Posted on October 14, 2009 at 8:45 PM |

Man, you guys posted a lot of blogs while I was on vacation! (which I love to see of course!) Trying to get through them all and respond to all of them but not sure if I'll get a chance. (sorry to anyone who I miss responding to) I think WWE went PG for a few reasons: 1) It's easier to market to the younger audience. Heck, I grew up on wrestling watching Hulk Hogan take on guys like Earthquake (who "broke his back"), Ultimate Warrior getting a voodoo curse from Papa Shango or being locked in a casket by Undertaker, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseam! That stuff is kind of exciting when you're young, but it's just hard to suspend your disbelief for things like that when you get older. (and especially today with a product like UFC out there) WWE Creative fell into a lull after the Attitude Era, and someone (Vince or Stephanie) made the call to go PG because it's easier to write the material and it's easy to brush off the criticism when you say you're just writing it for kids. 2) Linda McMahon has been planning to run for office for a while, and WWE made the preemptive move to go PG so that she couldn't be taken to task for things that kids probably shouldn't be watching - but of course being wrestling, will be watching. (WWE used to try to say in the Attitude Era they WEREN'T marketing to kids at all, but of course kids do like the action and stories wrestling presents) 3) Vince never wanted to move away from the silly stuff he used to do. It was always hokey in the 80s, with the exception being the great stuff with the IC title. It got worse in the early 90s. Then the steroid trial happened - Vince took a step away - and things moved more towards the guys with good workrate and real talent. Then the nWo happened and Vince had no choice but to continue with solid wrestling and even add some serious edginess to it (borrowed from ECW by way of Vince Russo). I wonder if Vince ever wanted to go that direction - I think maybe he was just forced to! And maybe I can make a 4th point, but it's just a thought - 4) The economy is bad. Adults don't want to part with their money as easily. BUT kids don't understand the economy and their parents will do what they can to hide it from them. So marketing to kids gives the kids something they want to see, parents are willing to plop down the 40 bucks so their kids can have a fun night watching a WWE PPV, and that's that. Is it fair to say WWE thought of it like this? Probably not. But I can see this being something they could try to point to now. Personally, I don't mind a little PG stuff, but I don't want my intelligence insulted, either. PG would be fine with me if WWE Creative wrote more compelling storylines. Blood isn't a part of the storyline - it's a part of the match. They can leave the blood out, but I want the build to the match to still be exciting!
