Is CM Punk the NEW Steve Austin?
Is history repeating itself? I don't know, but it is becoming apparent that it seems to be in the WWE.
CM Punk, as you know, is a heel. However, he is cheered by the WWE universe in attendance at the TV shows and most likely the same is true at the live events around the country. Punk as become what is known as a "tweener."
Much like Stone Cold Steve Austin back in the day, CM Punk is seemingly battling the boss, which this time around is Chief Operating Officer, Triple H. Punk is standing up to HHH each week and speaking the plain truth. Very entertaining TV I might add.
As of this past Monday Night Raw, we learned that Triple H will face Punk at Night of Champions. Again, the similarity to Vince McMahon facing Steve Austin back in the attitude days of the WWE.
To be honest, I'm enjoying this "new" attitude era. The language is on the edge of the PG rating and RAW is becoming a little more raw as of late. This is how wrestling should be. On the edge of your seat, waiting to see what is going to happen next.
CM Punk is right. He is just wanting it to be fun again. With this storyline, whether it is a repeat of recent history or not, Monday nights are becoming fun again. Makes me want to tune in (even though I would anyway) with anticipation.
Looking forward to seeing the fallout from Night of Champions with Punk squaring off against Triple H, the boss.
