It's been another noteworthy week, as many matches have been made for TNA's Slammiversary and WWE's Capitol Punishment, so tonight, as their PPV is nearer, I'll start with TNA.
Impact Wrestling
We started off with another time-waster of a promo from Bischoff and Hogan, who basically took 5 minutes to tell us that Mick Foley was fired last week and they told Sting and Mr. Anderson to come out if they wanted to say anything, and both men wasted another 10 minutes by not saying anything of real note. TNA have got to stop doing this, as it makes them look really bad, and I can't see how TNA's Creative Team hasn't realised that yet. The first match of the night was Angelina Love and Winter defeating Mickie James and Tara after a Madison Rayne distraction, which was bit obvious, but builds up 2 Knockouts matches in one, so is a good thing. However, Mickie will retain her title at Slammiversary, as she's the John Cena of Knockouts wrestling. Mexican America did a promo saying they'll soon be Tag Team champions, and even though I haven't been too impressed with them, they should be facing the champs at Slammiversary, not British Invasion. After all, they did beat Ink Inc in the last PPV, unlike the Invasion, who've done nothing.
Samoa Joe beat up Crimson in a bar fight, which will mean Crimson will defeat Joe at Slammiversary and continue his already stellar career. Mexican America picked up their biggest win by defeating Alex Shelley and James Storm, so after Slammiversary, they'll definitely get the title shot they should already have, solidified by them threatening Hogan for title shots, which is good. Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle had a face-off and after Jarrett bored the world with a 5 minute promo, Angle saved the segment by speaking well for a minute and leaving the ring so the next segment could go on. That should automatically give Angle the win at Slammiversary, but I think it'll be a surprise draw, so that Sting can defend against Angle and Jarrett at the next PPV. Bully Ray issued an open challenge to anyone except AJ Styles or Devon, the two men he's scared off, and out came RVD, who defeated Ray after a distraction from AJ, keeping Van Dam at the top of the TNA ladder, despite his lack of a story, which is good booking.
Abyss then told Kaz and Brian Kendrick that he'd defend the Xtreme title, as its now called, against both of them, which should make for a very entertaining match-up. Velvet Sky defeated ODB, which annoyed me as Velvet has no business defeating a serious wrestler like ODB, but I guess this means Sky has some credibility for the next time she calls someone out and gets beaten up. We saw a video of the Devon/Pope feud on Xplosion, which will probably be the dark match for Slammiversary, and then onto the main event of Gunner and Mr. Anderson against Sting and Eric Young, which ends in Anderson and Gunner picking up the win after Gunner pins Sting! This match built up some heat for Gunner and Anderson, but it really killed Sting. I mean, how can the TV title match competitors beat the World title match competitors in 2 weeks. Crazy but true. However, Sting regained some face by beating up Anderson backstage, which leaves Anderson needing to win the title if he wants to stay in the main event.
RAW
Andy Leavine wins Tough Enough, defeating the favourite, Luke Robinson in a major upset, although I thought Andy would win. However, to start off the show proper, R-Truth came out and seceded from the WWE Universe, garnering major heat, before Miz, Riley and Cena all came out, leading to Mr. McMahon making the main event The Miz and R-Truth vs Alex Riley and John Cena, with Steve Austin as special guest referee. Santino Marella defeated Michael McGillicutty in the first match of the night to probably earn himself and Kozlov a tag title match, which will just be a filler. So much for the tag team divison. Beth Phoenix debuted on RAW, by teaming with Kelly Kelly to defeat The Bella Twins, who have really started to slump and will probably lose the Diva's title to Phoenix at some point. Jack Swagger made a ridiculous challenge to Booker T, who gladly accepted, leaving me happy as Booker T is a legend and Swagger is a very impressive wrestler.
WWE dropped the ball by letting Rey Mysterio pick up a victory over CM Punk, despite interference from Mason Ryan, as this leaves Punk and Rey 1-1, which does neither man a favour, while a 2-0 for Punk would put him back in the main event, Mysterio still in the Upper Midcard but capable of reaching the main event easily. Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez mocked Big Show, which, despite Del Rio's fan reaction, was not very well received by the audience, who were visibly bored by ADR's cnstant talking and lack of action, which has to change soon. Kofi Kingston picked up an obvious victory over Zack Ryder, who must be glad just to be back in the ring, and Jack Swagger ruined his match by walking away from Booker and losing by count-out. However, Evan Bourne led Swagger back into the ring and Booker T hit his Scissors Kick, before him and Bourne lit up the crowd with a double Spineroonie.
Cena and Riley defeated Miz and Truth, which does nothing for anyone but Riley, who's first main event as a face resulted in a win, and even though the GM reversed the result due to a Stunner on The Miz, we know who really won. To avoid any Austin beatings, the RAW GM made Austin the special GM of next week's All Star Night, which should make for some interesting viewing. And just to leave the crowd going home happy, Cena and Austin hit their finishers on Michael Cole and drunk a few beers together, as Riley walked off.
Smackdown
Christian finally turned hel by badmouthing the WWE audience, reverting to his Christian Cage character in TNA, but while it worked for TNA, I don't think he's got the heel aura about him anymore, and he won't be winning the World title anytime soon, but might win the Intercontinental championship sometime soon. Ezekiel Jackson and the now face Uso Twins defeated The Corre after Barrett left Slater and Gabriel to dry, and like I predicted last week, The Corre is now over after Slater and Gabriel left Barrett. However, Barrett will still defend the I-C title at Capitol Punishment. Jinder Mahal defeated Trent Barretta and Khali put Trent in the Vice Grip, but the WWE seem to have made Khali the manager, while Mahal as manager would be a lot more believable. AJ picked up her first win on Smackdown by picking up an upset victory over Tamina, which will only serve to inflate her already annoying persona.
Christianrefused to step in the ring with Randy Orton and instead challenged The Viper to a match at Capitol Punishment, which was accpeted. And if their last 2 matches are anything to go on, this match should be a great match. Sin Cara defeated Ted DiBiase by DQ after Cody Rhodes interfered, but Teddy Long came out and made the obvious match of Cara and Bryan vs Priceless next, and for the second week in a row, Ted tapped out to the LeBell Lock, keeping Bryan's push intact, while slowly killing off DiBiase, who deserves better than to be a jobber every week. In an exceptional No-DQ match, Sheamus managed to keep himself as a Main Eventer by defeating Randy Orton, even though it's only his third win as a member of Smackdown, which shows very good booking for the Celtic Warrior. He won after Christian made a 'shock' return to the arena and hit Orton over the head with the World title belt, ending the wrestling week.
My match of the week is Sheamus vs Randy Orton, and my moment of the week is Steve Austin and John Cena beating on Michael Cole. Thank you for reading, and see you next week.
